From sailing early in the ubiquitous New Zealand P Class at Worser Bay in Wellington, onwards to Trailer Yachts, to campaigning a Paper Tiger, to a career of designing and building larger multihulls, my life has predominately revolved around sailing and boating.

I’ve have done a boat building trade apprenticeship, and a Small Craft design course. But the greatest teacher is the sea, and I get on the water as much as I can. I do as much sailing as I can on Pulse, coastal racing and cruising.

China tells the rollicking story of a young man who goes to China with the misguided notion that he will help bring the Chinese into the modern world. About the Author Tim Clissold has lived and worked in China for more than twenty years and has traveled to most parts of the country. After graduating with degrees in physics and theoretical physics from Cambridge University, and working in London, Australia, and Hong Kong, he developed a fascination with China. I have enjoyed developing Pulse, including making a whole new suite of sails this year.

Recently I’ve enjoyed being part of the team that made many parts for the winning Oracle AC 72 and AC 50 catamarans.

I’ve part of one of the Americas Cup Teams in Bermuda in 2017. Just inspiring these wing masted and foiling cats doing 40 knots...

With my designs I am passionate about making them functional and practical, while still creating, at least to my eye, a good looking boat.

Sailing multihulls have been my focus, with typical features on many of my boats being spray rails, spreader-less masts and boomless mainsails. Performance is important, but safety, simplicity and comfort are important to a fun sailing experience, and these features help enhance that.

A new direction is my electric boats. Even if you don’t subscribe to the effects of ‘climate change’, the reality is we will run out of oil products one day, and alternative means of travel need to be developed. My contribution is the Elotri range, to provide family boating powered by the sun, making barely a ripple or a whisper as the boat glides through the water.

Finally, custom designs are the challenge I relish. So if you have a slightly ‘off the wall’ idea, and you want an innovative designer to take up the challenge of making your dream boat a reality, let’s talk and make it happen!
